My second proper rigging trip! It was very fun to be honest, and I surprised myself with how quickly I was able to rig (not at all). Why is it always more difficult to rig when people are watching? I mean I get that you improve as you start to remember more and more about what you're doing, but it always feels more like I forget how to do anything when people are waiting to get into the cave. Anyway, my rigging got faster. As I was doing it, I was remembering what Chris was saying about having "bad style" to only rig off alpines and figure-eights, so I decided to do bowlines. Also to give the freshers some more practice with encountering different kinds of knots. We did four pitches, and things went relatively smoothly (other than an unnecessary deviation that Thurston rigged... I could have done it better). We got out a little past our ETA (1900), but made it back to the minibus in time to cancel callout. How I wish the story could end here. Aquamole Pot was not back yet, and with no sign of them, Thurston and some others went looking for them. Thankfully, three of them were making their way out, and told us the other three were taking their time getting out. Then we realised the problem — Sell Gill's callout was AFTER ours, and there were people back at the hut who we didn't know and would see our callout on the board. We made the decision to drive back to the NPC to try and stop people from calling CRO on James (again...), and thankfully they hadn't. They had, however, sent some people to drive to Kingsdale to make sure that we were ok (which was very nice of them), and they turned around after they saw our minibus driving back to the NPC. Thurston then had to turn around and drive the minibus to go back to Kingsdale and pick up the three people we'd left behind. After all that, James then went and locked his keys in his car as a cherry on top. Thankfully, nothing else much went wrong, though the search for flashing amber lights coming our way was a search I will not soon forget.
